ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 20 -- United States Patent no. 12,390,885, issued on Aug. 19, was assigned to GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC (Detroit).

"Laser marking system for vehicle body customization" was invented by Joshua Lee Solomon (Berkley, Mich.), Hui-Ping Wang (Troy, Mich.) and Antonio R. Vittorini (Rochester Hills, Mich.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method of customizing a vehicle body includes inputting a selected customized embellishment to a laser controller, directing a beam of the laser onto a surface of the vehicle body, and guiding the beam of the laser with the laser controller to impart the selected customized embellishment to the surface."
