ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,286,638, issued on April 29, was assigned to GloFish LLC (Earth City, Mo.).
"Transgenic barb" was invented by Alan Blake (Austin, Texas), Richard Crockett (Wilton, Conn.) and Aidas Nasevicius (Tampa, Fla.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention relates to transgenic ornamental barbs, as well as methods of making such fish by in vitro fertilization techniques. Also disclosed are methods of establishing a population of such transgenic barbs and methods of providing them to the ornamental fish industry for the purpose of marketing."
The patent was filed on Jan. 10, 2020, under Application No. 17/421,678.
