ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,295,560, issued on May 13, was assigned to Globus Medical Inc. (Audubon, Pa.).
"Orthopedic tools for implantation" was invented by Varun Ponmudi (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and Edward Karpowicz (Sewell, N.J.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present application is generally directed to improved instruments and instrument features for distraction and tissue retraction. In particular, the present application is directed to distraction blades and wide blocking blades that can be used together, or individually, to assist in the distraction of bone and the retraction of tissue during a surgical procedure, such as a spinal fusion procedure."
