ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,460,233, issued on Nov. 4, was assigned to Givaudan SA (Vernier, Switzerland).
"Production of guaiene and rotundone" was invented by Andreas Goeke (Dubendorf, Switzerland), Julie Charpentier (Zurich, Switzerland), Boris Schilling (Knonau, Switzerland) and Fridtjof Schroder (Hettlingen, Switzerland).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A process for producing rotundone from Alpha-guaiene, in particular by oxidation of the C(3) position, wherein the Alpha-guaiene is produced from a precursor by a sesquiterpene synthase. The sesquiterpene synthase is produced in a microorganism."
