ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,234,464, issued on Feb. 25, was assigned to Ginkgo Bioworks Inc. (Boston).

"Biosynthesis of mogrosides" was invented by Jeffrey Ian Boucher (Allston, Mass.), Nicholas Flores (Cambridge, Mass.), Jaide Jensen (Cambridge, Mass.), Dayal Saran (Melrose, Mass.) and Jue Wang (Seattle).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided herein are enzymes (e.g., cucurbitadienol synthases (CDS), UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGT), C11 hydroxylases, epoxide hydrolases (EPH), squalene epoxidases, and/or cytochrome P450 reductases), host cells expressing the enzymes, and methods of producing mogrol precursors, mogrol, and/or mogrosides using such host cells."
