ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,279,638, issued on April 22, was assigned to GHL Specialty Flours LLC (Cedarburg, Wis.).

"Functionally enhanced flours and methods of making and using same" was invented by John M. Lipscomb (Cedarburg, Wis.), Omar I. Rodriguez (Cedarburg, Wis.) and Chad C. Berge (Menomonee Falls, Wis.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A functionally enhanced flour provided by a manufacturing process that subjects a grain precursor to extrusion under low water, high pressure, and low heat dynamic conditions, and methods of using the resulting flour as an ingredient in food products for human and animal consumption."
