ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,457,342, issued on Oct. 28, was assigned to Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. (Munich).

"Predictive coding concept using template matching" was invented by Gayathri Venugopal (Berlin), Detlev Marpe (Berlin) and Thomas Wiegand (Berlin).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Concepts for predictive picture coding using template matching are presented which may, for a given computation complexity, result in an increased coding efficiency."

The patent was filed on Aug. 7, 2019, under Application No. 16/534,915.
