ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 8 -- United States Patent no. 12,434,660, issued on Oct. 7, was assigned to Ford Global Technologies LLC (Dearborn, Mich.).
"Load-limiting seatbelt retractor" was invented by Dean M. Jaradi (Macomb, Mich.), Mohammad Omar Faruque (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and S. M. Iskander Farooq (Novi, Mich.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A restraint system includes a retractor housing, a webbing spool rotatably coupled to the retractor housing and defining an axis of rotation, a wire spool lockable to the webbing spool, a die fixed relative to the retractor housing, and a wire fixed to the wire spool and engaged with the die."
