ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,479,385, issued on Nov. 25, was assigned to Ford Global Technologies LLC (Dearborn, Mich.).
"Electronically controlled airbag vents" was invented by Mohammad Omar Faruque (Ann Arbor, Mich.), S.M. Iskander Farooq (Novi, Mich.) and Dean M. Jaradi (Macomb, Mich.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An airbag system including a panel defining a chamber. A vent opening extends through the panel and a cover is positioned over the vent opening and attached to the panel. A conductor at least partially surrounds the vent opening and is operative to release at least a portion of the cover from the panel when the conductor is electrically energized."
