"Device for supporting and fixing shelves of furniture" was invented by Antonio Giovannetti (Segrate, Italy).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A device for supporting and fixing a shelf to a side of a furniture item has a casing with an inner cavity, a pin positioned in the inner cavity, and an elastic member urging against the pin such that a tip of the pin protrudes from an edge of the casing in one position. The pin is retractable into the inner cavity of the casing when a force is applied to the pin such that the pin tilts within the inner cavity."
