ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,268,205, issued on April 8, was assigned to Fenwal Inc. (Lake Zurich, Ill.).

"Medium and methods for the storage of red blood cells" was invented by Craig L. Sandford (Buffalo Grove, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An aqueous storage solution for the storage of red blood cells, comprising an aqueous solution and at least one lipid, wherein the at least one lipid is effective in suppressing hemolysis in red blood cells and wherein the at least one lipid is emulsified within the aqueous solution."

The patent was filed on Sept. 27, 2022, under Application No. 17/935,832.
