ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,280,231, issued on April 22, was assigned to Fenwal Inc. (Lake Zurich, Ill.).

"Reversible sterile connection system" was invented by James Madsen (Chicago).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Sterile connection systems and methods are disclosed. The systems and methods allow for connection of the facing ends of plastic tubing defining flow paths without welding or tube cutting. The two ends may be disconnected, re-sterilized and subsequently reused to make a new sterile connection."

The patent was filed on April 1, 2021, under Application No. 17/220,566.
