US Patent Issued to Eli Lilly and Co. on May 20 for "Processes and intermediates for preparing tirzepatide" (Indiana Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,304,938, issued on May 20, was assigned to Eli Lilly and Co. (Indianapolis).

"Processes and intermediates for preparing tirzepatide" was invented by Michael Eugene Kopach (Greenwood, Ind.), Rachel Nicole Richey (Indianapolis), Mark Richard Berglund (Zionsville, Ind.), Kevin Dale Seibert (Carmel, Ind.) and Emily Suzanne Murzinski (Zionsville, Ind.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention provides new intermediates and processes useful in the manufacture of tirzepatide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof."

The patent was filed on Aug. 15, 2024, under Application No. 18/806,394.
