ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,402,708, issued on Sept. 2, was assigned to ELC Management LLC (Melville, N.Y.).

"Shock absorbing inserts for cosmetic compacts" was invented by Pamela Wong-Putnam (Greenlawn, N.Y.), Gianluca Mattaroccia (Sunnyside, N.Y.), Steven Shannon (Roselle, Ill.) and Jian Zhou (Buffalo Grove, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A compact case comprises a product palette configured with one or more product wells. The palette is connected to, and rests, on top of a shock absorbing insert, and both are located in the base of the compact.
