ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,358,848, issued on July 15, was assigned to Ecovative LLC (Green Island, N.Y.).
"Method of forming a mycological product" was invented by Eben Bayer (Troy, N.Y.) and Gavin McIntyre (Troy, N.Y.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The method grows a mycelial mass over a three-dimensional lattice such that a dense network of oriented hyphae is formed on the lattice. Growth along the lattice results in mycelium composite with highly organized hyphae strands and allows the design and production of composites with greater strength in chosen directions due to the organized nature of the supporting mycelia structure."
