ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,492,298, issued on Dec. 9, was assigned to Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, Tenn.).

"2-ethylhexanoyl substituted cellulose esters" was invented by Wesley Wayne McConnell (Kingsport, Tenn.), Mustafa Humbel Ahmed (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Bin Wang (Kingsport, Tenn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present application discloses regioselectively substituted cellulose esters comprising 2-ethylhexanoyl substituents that have desirable mechanical properties that allow the cellulose esters to be stretched into larger and thinner films while still maintaining their optical properties."
