ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 10 -- United States Patent no. 12,412,538, issued on Sept. 9, was assigned to E Ink Corp. (Billerica, Mass.).

"Electrophoretic device with ambient light sensor and adaptive whiteness restoring and color balancing frontlight" was invented by Dirk Hertel (Quincy, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An electrophoretic display apparatus includes an ambient light sensor and a frontlight system for adaptively restoring whiteness and balancing color on the display."

The patent was filed on June 3, 2024, under Application No. 18/731,572.
