ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,303,572, issued on May 20, was assigned to Duke University (Durham, N.C.).

"Ascorbate formulations and methods of use as contrast agents" was invented by Christopher David Lascola (Durham, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A sterile aqueous composition suitable for use as an MRI contrast agent includes 100 to 600 mM ascorbate; and 100-600 mM sodium, meglumine, or a combination thereof. The composition preferably has an osmolarity of 200 to 1400 mOsm/L."

The patent was filed on July 28, 2021, under Application No. 17/443,863.
