ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 5 -- United States Patent no. 12,215,366, issued on Feb. 4, was assigned to Duke University (Durham, N.C.).

"Compositions and methods for epigenome editing" was invented by Charles A. Gersbach (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Isaac Hilton (Houston).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed herein are CRISPR/Cas9-based gene activation systems that include a fusion protein of a Cas9 protein and a protein having histone acetyltransferase activity, and methods of using said systems."

The patent was filed on Sept. 10, 2021, under Application No. 17/471,935.
