ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,298,513, issued on May 13, was assigned to DigiLens Inc. (Sunnyvale, Calif.).

"Waveguide device with uniform output illumination" was invented by Jonathan David Waldern (Diablo, Calif.), Alastair John Grant (San Jose, Calif.) and Milan Momcilo Popovich (Leicester, Great Britain).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Various embodiments of waveguide devices are described. A debanding optic may be incorporated into waveguide devices, which may help supply uniform output illumination. Accordingly, various waveguide devices are able to output a substantially flat illumination profile eliminating or mitigating banding effects."
