ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,343,843, issued on July 1, was assigned to Diamond Productions Ltd. (Montreal).

"Automatic detection system for floor treating machines" was invented by Harvey Stark (Montreal), Eric Gallup (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Isaac Branning (Arcola, Ind.) and Pavel Ikonomov (Laval, Canada).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Multiple floor treatment operations, such as burnishing, polishing, and scrubbing, may be performed using a single floor treatment machine having a motor, the speed of which is governed by a controller that responds to sensor signals indicative of the type of floor treatment pad or pads operatively coupled to the motor."
