ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,256,658, issued on March 25, was assigned to Deere & Co. (Moline, Ill.).

"Controlling seed placement based on prior material placement" was invented by Justin L. Montenguise (Bettendorf, Iowa), Cary S. Hubner (Geneseo, Ill.) and Grant J. Wonderlich (Milan, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An indication of previously-applied material is obtained. A planting machine is controlled to plant seeds based on the indication of the previously-applied material."

The patent was filed on Feb. 22, 2022, under Application No. 17/677,521.
