ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,371,022, issued on July 29, was assigned to Cummins Inc. (Columbus, Ind.).

"Optimizing regenerative braking" was invented by Jaime Antonio Lugo-Castillo (Columbus, Ind.), Sathya Narayanan Hariharan (Columbus, Ind.), Yuanchun Cai (Columbus, Ind.), Balan Mariappan Selvaraj (Columbus, Ind.) and Richard A. Booth (Columbus, Ind.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A control system for controlling a powertrain of an electric or hybrid electric vehicle is disclosed. The powertrain comprises a battery and a traction motor and is operable in a regenerative braking mode. The control system is configured to generate a deceleration target for the vehicle...
