ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,250,310, issued on March 11, was assigned to Crown Sterling Ltd. LLC.

"Use of irrational numbers in elliptic curve cryptography" was invented by Robert Edward Grant (Laguna Beach, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Elliptical curve cryptography (ECC) utilizes an elliptic curve consistent with the formula px mod q=r, where x is a private key having an irrational number component. The irrational component is employed to provide much greater entropy than would be achieved where x is a prime number."

The patent was filed on Jan. 9, 2023, under Application No. 18/094,747.
