ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,312,423, issued on May 27, was assigned to CP Kelco ApS (Lille Skensved, Denmark).

"Pectin characterised by a low degree of methyl esterification and a high intrinsic viscosity" was invented by Claus Rolin (Koge, Denmark) and Mette Enoe Hansen (Haslev, Denmark).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention relates to citrus pectin characterized by a low degree of methyl esterification yet a high intrinsic viscosity, a process for producing pectin using citrus peel and use of an enzyme endogenous to citrus peel to produce pectin."

The patent was filed on Aug. 10, 2023, under Application No. 18/447,393.
