ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,426,971, issued on Sept. 30, was assigned to Covidien LP (Mansfield, Mass.).

"Surgical robotic systems" was invented by Jaimeen Kapadia (Cambridge, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A surgical robotic arm for use in a minimally invasive surgical procedure includes an elongated rail configured for slidable engagement of a surgical instrument, and a trocar mount disposed at an end portion of the rail. The trocar mount is rotatable relative to the end portion of the rail to assist with loading and unloading the surgical instrument."

The patent was filed on Dec. 21, 2020, under Application No. 17/788,434.
