ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,458,350, issued on Nov. 4, was assigned to Covidien LP (Mansfield, Mass.).
"Staple cartridge with retractable knife assembly" was invented by Ping Ren (Shanghai), Syed Sarfraz Ahamed (Shanghai) and Jiangfeng Zhang (Shanghai).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A surgical stapling device includes a cartridge assembly including a staple pusher, a knife holder, a knife supported on the knife holder, and a biasing member. The biasing member is positioned between the staple pusher and the knife holder to prevent re-advancement of the knife blade after the stapling device is fired."
