ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,383,260, issued on Aug. 12, was assigned to Covidien LP (Mansfield, Mass.).
"Surgical stapler with universal tip reload" was invented by Pawel Abramek (Berlin, Conn.), Kenneth M. Cappola (Monroe, Conn.), Matthew J. Chowaniec (Madison, Conn.) and Zalika Walcott (Hamden, Conn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A surgical stapler includes a tool assembly that has a cartridge assembly, an anvil assembly, and a dissector tip. The dissector tip is moveable between a first configuration aligned with a longitudinal axis of the tool assembly and a second configuration defining an acute angle with the longitudinal axis of the tool assembly."
