ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,358,833, issued on July 15, was assigned to CORNING Inc. (Corning, N.Y.).

"Bioactive glass compositions" was invented by Erin Coon (Lewisburg, Pa.), Qiang Fu (Painted Post, N.Y.) and Alana Marie Whittier (Painted Post, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A silicate-based glass composition includes: 40-60 wt. % SiO2, 0-10 wt. % B2O3, 0.01-10 wt. % P2O5, 0-10 wt. % Al2O3, 0-5 wt. % Li2O, 10-30 wt. % Na2O, 0.01-15 wt. % K2O, 0.01-5 wt. % MgO, 15-30 wt. % CaO, 15-35 wt. % MO, and 15-30 wt. % R2O, such that MO is the sum of MgO, CaO, SrO, BeO, and BaO, and R2O is the sum of Na2O, K2O, Li2O, Rb2O, and Cs2O."
