ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,378,153, issued on Aug. 5, was assigned to CORNING Inc. (Corning, N.Y.).

"Ion exchangeable glass with high crack initiation threshold" was invented by Timothy Michael Gross (Corning, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Alkali aluminosilicate glasses that are resistant to damage due to sharp impact and capable of fast ion exchange are provided. The glasses comprise at least 4 mol % P2O5 and, when ion exchanged, have a Vickers indentation crack initiation load of at least about 7 kgf."

The patent was filed on June 22, 2023, under Application No. 18/212,993.
