ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,297,165, issued on May 13, was assigned to Cornell University (Ithaca, N.Y.).

"Oligothioetheramides (oligoteas) as anti-microbial and anti-bacterial agents" was invented by Christopher Akinleye Alabi (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Ngoc Nhu Phan (Ithaca, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided are oligothioetheramides (oligoTEAs) having a plurality of cationic groups, such as, for examples, cationic groups having guanidinium groups. The cationic oligoTEAs exhibit activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The compounds can be used as antibacterial compounds against the same."
