ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,480,147, issued on Nov. 25, was assigned to Conagen Inc. (Bedford, Mass.).
"Biosynthetic production of gamma-lactones" was invented by Hui Chen (North Billerica, Mass.) and Oliver Yu (Lexington, Mass.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided herein are methods for making gamma lactones comprising reacting a carboxylic acid substrate with a heterologous cytochrome P450 (CYP450) protein with carboxylic acid 4-hydroxylase activity."
The patent was filed on Dec. 7, 2022, under Application No. 18/062,628.
