ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,314,966, issued on May 27, was assigned to Comcast Cable Communications LLC (Philadelphia).

"Providing wireless network access" was invented by Billy Edison Stephens (West Chester, Pa.) and Kam-Cheong Anthony Tsoi (San Diego).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A network access point may control access by limiting time of access to users, and by granting additional access time in exchange for certain user behavior, such as viewing advertisements. Other rewards may be granted as well, such as changes to the user's network access quality, or access to restricted content."
