ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,225,964, issued on Feb. 18, was assigned to COLE HAAN LLC (Greenland, N.H.).

"Shoe having features for increased flexibility" was invented by Jeffrey Mokos (Greenland, N.H.) and Scott Patt (Greenland, N.H.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A shoe includes a sole, an upper, and a welt. The sole and upper define a seam. The welt overlies the seam. The sole includes flex grooves. The upper includes perforations. The welt includes flex slits."

The patent was filed on March 16, 2020, under Application No. 16/819,776.
