According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Quantum-state readout for an atom is performed using stimulated emission, e.g., by illuminating the atoms with electromagnetic radiation (EMR) with wavelengths selected to stimulate photon emission from the atom.
