ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,299,863, issued on May 13, was assigned to Chevron U.S.A. Inc. (San Ramon, Calif.).
"Coke morphology by image segmentation" was invented by Kaustav Chaudhuri (Vacaville, Calif.), Thomas M. Rea (Vacaville, Calif.), Estrella Rogel (Orinda, Calif.), Cesar Ovalles (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Paul E. Hajdu (Benicia, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention is directed to a method for the prediction of coke morphology from feed characteristics using cross-polarized light optical microscopy, image segmentation, and statistical analysis."
The patent was filed on July 26, 2021, under Application No. 17/384,883.
