ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,258,302, issued on March 25, was assigned to Chevron U.S.A. Inc. (San Ramon, Calif.).
"Ionic liquid alkylation of isobutane with ethylene to produce alkylate" was invented by Bong-Kyu Chang (Novato, Calif.), Hye-Kyung Cho Timken (Albany, Calif.) and Huping Luo (Moraga, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A process for producing high octane alkylate is provided. The process involves reacting isobutane and ethylene using an ionic liquid catalyst. Reaction conditions can be chosen to assist in attaining, or to optimize, desirable alkylate yields and/or properties."
