ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,424,928, issued on Sept. 23, was assigned to Caterpillar Inc. (Peoria, Ill.).

"Resistor-less pre-charging techniques" was invented by Basheer Qattum (Peoria, Ill.) and Dachuan Yu (Dunlap, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Techniques that eliminate the need for a dedicated pre-charge resistor by using the main power path of the AC/DC, DC/DC, or DC/AC converter. By eliminating the pre-charge resistor, the techniques increase the maximum allowable current rating of the converter as well as increase the impedance and inductance of the converter."

The patent was filed on April 13, 2023, under Application No. 18/134,099.
