ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,351,171, issued on July 8, was assigned to Caterpillar SARL (Geneva).

"Autonomous machine operation using vibration analysis" was invented by Nathan Adams (Durham, Great Britain).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Operating an autonomous machine using analysis of machine vibration while it is operational. Accelerometers are used to measure the machines vibrations while it is being operated. If the vibrations exceed a predetermined acceleration a controller adjust the velocity of the machine to prevent/reduce further vibrations."

The patent was filed on Jan. 28, 2021, under Application No. 17/796,717.
