ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 18 -- United States Patent no. 12,473,419, issued on Nov. 18, was assigned to CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY (Cleveland).

"One-step, solvent-free method for recycling and reprocessing thermoset polymers with tunable properties" was invented by Ica Manas-Zloczower (Cleveland), Liang Yue (Cleveland) and Mehrad Amirkhosravi (Cleveland).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Thermosetting plastics are recycled by process that begins with grinding the plastic into small pieces. This particulate is then mixed with a catalyst and ball mill milled to a fine powder, which can then be reprocessed via molding (e.g., hot-press, injection, etc.)."
