ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 13 -- United States Patent no. 12,522,843, issued on Jan. 13, was assigned to CarryGenes Bioengineering LLC (Savannah, Ga.).

"Compositions and methods of chromosomal silencing" was invented by Edward Perkins (Savannah, Ga.), Amy Greene (Savannah, Ga.) and Dominique Broccoli (Savannah, Ga.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention encompasses compositions and methods to create a whole chromosome regulatable "kill" switch to inactivate expression of one or more therapeutic genes expressed from a synthetic chromosome."
