ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,310,617, issued on May 27, was assigned to Cardio Flow Inc. (St. Paul, Minn.).

"Atherectomy devices and methods" was invented by Cassandra Ann Piippo Svendsen (Blaine, Minn.), Charles Anthony Plowe (Blaine, Minn.), Albert Selden Benjamin (St Paul, Minn.), Paul Joseph Robinson (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Evan Leingang (Plymouth, Minn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Rotational atherectomy devices and systems can remove or reduce stenotic lesions in blood vessels by rotating an abrasive element within the vessel. The abrasive element can be attached to a distal portion of an elongate flexible drive shaft that extends from a handle assembly."
