ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,378,129, issued on Aug. 5, was assigned to BYK-CHEMIE GMBH (Wesel, Germany).

"Layered silicate partially modified with amino acid" was invented by Hussein Kalo (Landshut, Germany), Maximilian Bohmer (Munster, Germany), Udo Krappe (Wesel, Germany) and Nico Heitzer (Wesel, Germany).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention relates to a layered silicate having interlayer cations, wherein the interlayer cations comprise a) inorganic monovalent cations comprising at least one of Na+, K+, and Li+, and b) organic cations comprising at least one protonated amino acid."

The patent was filed on July 8, 2022, under Application No. 18/571,953.
