US Patent Issued to British Broadcasting on May 20 for "Chroma intra prediction in video coding and decoding" (British Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,309,398, issued on May 20, was assigned to British Broadcasting Corp. (London).

"Chroma intra prediction in video coding and decoding" was invented by Marc Gorriz Blanch (London), Marta Mrak (London) and Saverio Blasi (London).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An intra-prediction mode is provided for chroma data, in which a neural network implemented attention module directs the encoding of a block of chroma data with respect to luma data for the collocated luma block."

The patent was filed on Nov. 19, 2020, under Application No. 17/797,910.
