ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 11 -- United States Patent no. 12,543,694, issued on Feb. 10, was assigned to British American Tobacco Ltd. (London).
"Method for reducing nornicotine in tobacco" was invented by Sara Ben Khaled (London) and Francisco Anastacio De Abreu E Lima (London).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention relates to a method of reducing the content of at least one tobacco specific nitrosamine (TSNA) or a precursor of a TSNA in tobacco comprising expressing a deregulated cation efflux protein in a tobacco plant, or plant part thereof, or plant cell."
The patent was filed on Aug. 1, 2019, under Application No. 17/250,552.
