ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,480,809, issued on Nov. 25, was assigned to Bristol Maritime Robotics Ltd.

"Sensors" was invented by Richard Sewell (Torfaen, Great Britain) and Thomas Rooney (Bristol, Great Britain).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A sensor comprising a whisker shaft and a follicle is provided. The shaft has a root end and a tip end and the shaft tapers from the root end to the tip end so that the root end is wider and the tip end is narrower. The root end is pivotably mounted in the follicle."

The patent was filed on May 19, 2023, under Application No. 18/199,552.
