ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,370,749, issued on July 29, was assigned to Branson Ultrasonics Corp. (Brookfield, Conn.).

"Contained welding" was invented by Jeremiah Bray (West Haven, Conn.), Marcus Chiesa (New Milford, Conn.), Tom Hoover (Salt Point, N.Y.) and David Devine (La Grange, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A welding process includes inserting two work pieces inside a sealable container. Placing the container with the two work pieces inside into a welding device and welding the two members together while inside the container."

The patent was filed on Dec. 9, 2022, under Application No. 18/064,153.
