ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,370,927, issued on July 29, was assigned to Bose Corp. (Framingham, Mass.).

"Upper seat position tracking" was invented by Eben Andrew Kunz (Jamaica Plain, Mass.), Charles Terence Henry Oswald (Salem, N.Y.) and Remco Terwal (West Newton, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Various implementations include seats and related systems for detecting user proximity and controlling one or more functions based on that proximity detection. In particular cases, the seats include an upper seat section with at least one two-dimensional (2D) contrast indicator that is detectable by a sensor system to indicate a position of the upper seat section."
