ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,295,975, issued on May 13, was assigned to BIOGAIA AB (Stockholm).

"Serotonin producing bacteria" was invented by Estelle Grasset (Les Achards, France), Muhammed Khan (Molndal, Sweden), Bo Mollstam (Lerum, Sweden) and Stefan Roos (Uppsala, Sweden).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention relates to selection of bacterial strain for use in treating serotonin deficiency and/or a disease related to serotonin deficiency by culturing bacteria of a lactic acid producing bacterial strain, under aerobic conditions, in a culture medium comprising tryptophan.
