US Patent Issued to BioCryst Pharmaceuticals on Feb. 17 for "Synthesis of an antiviral azasugar triphosphate" (Alabama Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,552,827, issued on Feb. 17, was assigned to BioCryst Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Durham, N.C.).

"Synthesis of an antiviral azasugar triphosphate" was invented by Pravin L. Kotian (Hoover, Ala.), Zhao Dang (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) and Minwan Wu (Vestavia Hills, Ala.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided are methods of making the active 5'-triphosphate form of galidesivir (compound 1) and the active 5'-triphosphate form of azasugar nucleoside analogues (compound 2):a potent anti-viral compound useful for broad spectrum treatment, suppression, and prevention of viral infections.
